OOOOHhhhhh!! SPRING is in the air!!
April is the month we associate with “showers” of rain. It is washing away the old, dirty, Wintery stuff & new, fresh, sprouts of anticipation are taking hold.
SO, for the month of April, I decided to focus on Journaling!! Now before you turn away with the thought, “oh, just another journaling site”, hear me out!!
I am a firm believer in Journaling, no matter whether an Art Journal, a personal Journal, a picture Journal, etc.!! I have found Journaling to be enlightening & cathartic at the same time.
But this is going to be a Journey of Discovery through Journaling!!
I belong to a group of women who decided to put some fun back in our lives through a little “role” playing. We are in a castle school & take classes & interact in our fictional personas. May sound silly, but believe me when I say we have helped alot of people with issues like needing to lose weight, get more exercise, eat right, depression, grief, etc. Our classes have activities like tracking your eating or tracking your fitness or cooking classes or art classes. One class I particularly enjoy is art class. thanks to a dear friend, I learned to tangle. My pen & ink drawings employ tangling & doodling. If you are interested, you can check out the official Zentangle site here at Zentangle.com .
Another thing we did was start an art journal. You could use any art medium of your choosing. Most of us combine our written journal entries with picture collages or art work of some kind. Here are 3 of my pages:
Now with the first one I used some note cards I had and did a collage (when you open the card there are words & more pics), with the second I cut a note card up & wrote my feelings, & with the 3rd, it is my original art.
So, what are we gonna do for April??
Pick any kind of Journal you choose….a pretty one, a regular notebook, an art book, whatever suits your fancy. this will be a Journey of Discovery & Illumination!!
I want you to stretch your normal boundaries, do something you have never done before, like art or poetry or a short story. Just expand yourself & let go!!
This Journey is about learning you can do MORE than you think…….you have hidden talents just waiting to emerge. I don’t want ANY perfectionism or stinkin’ thinkin’ like “I can’t” or “I never” even entering your mind!!
WE are gonna TRY something NEW…..DO something NEW……FEEL something NEW!!!!
NO, I am not shouting…..well, maybe a little to get your attention!! ::tee hee:: ::giglesnort::
Each week I will post a topic of sorts on Wednesday. When you see the topic, just let your mind wander & decide what to do in your Journal. BUT….whatever you choose to do, it MUST be something NEW & imperfect for you to try!!!! This is not going to be graded or compared or any of that!! It is just for you to see that there is MORE to you & your talents than you think!!
When I started my first Art Journal, I went to Walmart & bought a children’s watercolor paint set for about $2. I always wished I were an artist but my work was childish & did NOT receive rave reviews!! the night before, I did my Brain Sweep & opened my mind & set my priorities & in the morning, I set about painting a pic. Abstract pic but VERY colorful!! ::tee hee:: I copied a poem I found, over the paint & that was my start. Then I learned the art of Zendoodling or tangling. I love color, but I enjoy the freshness & crispness of just pen & ink.
Through this simple exercise, I let go of my limiting belief & at least TRIED something new & found that I loved it!! I always plan some “art” time in my week now!!
Be looking for my blog on Wednesdays to see our topics for our APRIL JOURNEY OF DISCOVERY THROUGH JOURNALING.
I would LOVE to hear what you are doing & how it is going for you!! IF you are brave…..you can even post pics of your work or provide a link so we can see it. Please comment below to let me know you are joining us on this Journey of Discovery & Illumination Through Journaling!!
Without further ado…..
Our first week is dedicated to the freshness & newness of Spring. Anything that expresses this is okay. Try to express how you “feel” & “think” about Spring. ….the emerging life, flowers, sunshine, gardening, showers of rain, etc. Step out of your “norm” & BE CREATIVE!!
I look forward to hearing from you & reading your comments!!
