Spring is a Good Time to Make Plans!!

Whether you are planting flowers or a vegetable garden, you have to plan for it in order to complete it.  You need to know the “where, what, how & who” of the plan to have a garden.  The “why” is because you want one!!  LOL!!

WE need plans in order to successfully navigate down life’s path as well.  Some people are really good at planning & some not so much.  I devised & executed plans during most of my professional career.  It came easy for me.  I had good organizational skills.  Then I retired & my brain turned to mush!!  LOL!!  Not really!!  It is like any other habit, when you stop doing it, you forget.  You have to start making it a habit again to retrain your mind & to be effective.

Now, have you ever noticed that it is so much easier to do something for or to help someone else do something, than it is to do it for yourself??  THAT is one of the reasons we get overwhelmed & exhausted!!

First, we can’t seem to “see the forest for the trees”, so to speak…..we are TOO close to the issue.  Then, we beat ourselves up if it isn’t perfect creating self-sabotage.  THEN….because we are in this mental battle with ourselves, we become exhausted!!  Sound like anyone you know??

Well, it even happens to me at times & when it does, I have someone I can reach out to for a helping hand.

We all need SOMEONE to help us sort through things, to make sense of the chaos, & to regain control.  They help us get off that “runaway train”!!  LOL!!

During my career, I became “addicted” to planners!!  I probably have about 14 or 15 different ones.  I change planners like some women change purses!!  They are so pretty & such fun!!

I find it is uplifting to my Spirit when I decorate my planner pages or just generally work with my planner.  I have tried many sizes & types through the years, but I always seem to come back to my 2 favorite ones.  They are both A5 size Filofaxes.  One is an ochre (brownish) Malden & the other a pear (lime green) Saffiano.

Once you decide on what planner to use, then comes the never-ending search for the perfect planner pages & calendar.  This alone can send you into a frenzy!!  LOL!!   There are so many beautiful, colorful, functional planner pages available on Etsy alone!!  Don’t even get me started on Pinterest!!  LOL!!

I found, & use almost exclusively, planner pages from: http://www.limetreefruits.com.

They are bright & colorful, playful but very functional.  In addition, now that I am restarting my consulting/coaching business, I am using a weekly planner page that has the 30min slots for my coaching calls.  My friend Susan Williams-Goebber is the Guru of Planning Your Life Out on Paper & is designing a new planner page & I get to Beta test it!!  Thank you Susan!!  She is ALL about planning & planners on her website:

I have tried digital calendars, but I am a pen & paper person!!  I take just about 15 – 20 min a week on Sunday evening to plan my next week.  I keep about 4 wks’ worth of planning pages in my planner, so as appointments are made, I enter them as I go, that way when I sit down to do my weekly plan, most of it is already done.

Also, each evening, I take just a minute or 2 to check the next day’s schedule to see if I need to do anything special & what times my appts. are.  It really takes only a couple of minutes to do whatever adjustments may be needed so that my day is planned & moves smoothly for me!!

SO…..here is how I plan, basically:

  1. Each Sunday evening, look over the next week & make whatever adjustments needed.  (15min)
  2. Each evening, look over the next day & make whatever adjustments needed.  (5min)
  3. First thing each morning & check my planner for my day’s schedule.

It really doesn’t matter WHAT you use, in my opinion, just so you PLAN!!
