Is “rest” the answer?? Or is getting back to “basics” the answer?? Just what ARE the “basics”??
Procrastination……….a dirty word!!
You can deny it all you want but EVERYONE procrastinates at one time or another!! Actually, it starts in childhood when we put off that book report for school until the last minute!! We have ALL DONE that!!
So, why is procrastination a dirty word??
The short answer is……..when it becomes a problem!! How do we decide it is a problem??
There are probably many answers to this, but what I have found most common is that we are avoiding something due to fear of failure!!
This last month, while I have actually been sick, I thought that the illness was causing my fatigue & the feeling that I was running on fumes!! Went to the doctor & she said I was going through something called “delayed grief”. Losing my husband of over 30yrs, then losing my mother, then my father, then the half brother I was closest too, all in a couple of year’s time had taken its toll on me & my physical body.
I thought I was doing good….pushing through….moving on with my life!! BUT…..I wasn’t!! I was treading water!!
Even the BEST swimmers, if they tread water long enough, they wear out!!
It doesn’t matter who you are, what you do, or anything like that, when you go through a traumatic or life-changing event, you change!! Sometimes we are aware enough to realize this & sometimes we are only putting one foot in front of the other, just to survive!! At this point, we usually need help. A close friend or family member we can confide in or our Coach.
It is much easier for someone else to recognize our procrastination than for us to see it ourselves!!
I turned to my Coach, a dear friend!! She helped me to sort through the “stuff” in my life right now & helped me get back on track!! My goals & my “track” had changed, but I was still heading in the direction I ultimately wanted to be going in!!
I needed rest & to get well & THEN to start back on the track to my goals!! And that is where I am now. I am going to relax, do my ZenArt when I feel like it & move slowly toward my goals!! It is not like they have to be done tomorrow!! LOL!!
If you are feeling fatigued & as if you are only running on fumes, take a step back!! Do a brain sweep & write down every single thing in your head, no matter how big or how small!! Then walk away from it for a day or 2!! Then pick up that brain sweep list & try to organize it. Finally, sit down & write your top 2 goals for between now & the end of the year. Then write all the steps needed to accomplish those 2 goals. For each of the remaining months, write down 3 steps you can do each month to get you closer to your ultimate goals.
Will you reach those dreamy goals in the 2 months remaining this year?? Maybe & maybe not, BUT you will be that much closer to them!!
Where we focus our attention is where our energy & resources go!! Are we sending them in the right direction?? Sometimes we just need a minor course adjustment to reach our goals!!
What are your goals?? What are you procrastinating about?? Please share what you are thinking, you never know when something you share will help someone else or when someone else can help you!!
